UKZN Richard AD Turner Bursary 2023

The Richard Turner Bursary Fund at the KwaZulu-Natal University is open for applications. It is for Masters’ degree students who demonstrate a passion for student leadership and are involved in civic activities that promote democracy. The fund provides scholarships to support research that is focused on the protection of freedom and justice for all citizens of South Africa.

The scholarship was established in memory of Richard Turner, who was killed during the apartheid era. His mother, who was a generous donor to UKZN, left a substantial estate to the university. He was an active participant in the trade union movement and held an opposing stance.

Eligibility Criteria

Before an individual can apply for a Bursary, they must first meet all the necessary requirements.

  • Those who are studying for master’s degrees in KwaZulu-Natal should be enrolled in programs that deal with the issues of justice and freedom for all South Africans.
  • They must also demonstrate their leadership credentials and contribute to the advancement of democracy.

How to Apply?

Applicants need to download the UKZN Richard AD Turner Bursary Application Form 2023 and complete it.

Before you can start filling out an application form, you must first make sure that you have all the necessary supporting documents. These documents should be submitted along with the completed form.

  • CV with detailed information (maximum of 5 pages).
  • Degree earned most recently
  • Transcript of academic record
  • Reports from at least one referee commenting on your leadership/community involvement
  • You can submit either a proposal for your master’s thesis or a motivation for your dissertation (up to 3 pages)
  • Describe why you are deserving of this scholarship in a motivational letter (1 page)
